A favicon, is a small graphic, usually only 16×16 pixels in size, which are used in web browsers to identify a website. Lots of designers overlook the Importance of the favicon due to its small size, at CWS we like to think of it as one of the many ways we can add a special touch. You can see favicons within the tabs of chrome.
We create a wide range of favicon icons which work on every device. (17 different versions to be precise).
When designing favicons, we like to try and keep them simple (Ours is just a “C”), there are some rules which we try and stick to though.
- No real life images – These pixilate and don’t scale well across different devices.
- Not too much text – Hard to fit on and not really the ideal place for information
- Keep consistent- We always try and keep the same fonts and colours in use. Adding to the consistent brand image.
Hopefully this post will clear up any confusion surrounding favicons
